How cute is this ducky wrist rattle? Why not make one for your baby or for an expecting mom as a gift? You can also attach the duck to the toe of a pair of booties or socks. The pattern can also double as an applique to add to a t-shirt or a onesie.
The wrist rattle is made with a wide ribbon band folded in half. You can also make a wrist band using fabric cut on the bias 2 inches wide and then folded. It is completely up to you how you want to make it. Either way it will make a charming little rattle to be enjoyed.
To create this rattle, you will need the following:
Materials:
Yellow and orange felt Black embroidery thread Matching sewing thread Sewing needle Small jingle bell Light loft quilter's batting (small amount) Any wide ribbon for wrist band Any 1/4 inch wide ribbon for bow Sew-on Velcro (white) Iron-on hemming tape Scissors Measuring tape Iron
Instructions:
Step 1: Cut out the pattern pieces using the pattern provided. (See photo A.)

Step 2: Cut ribbon for bow 3 1/2 inches long. Measure your baby's wrist and add an additional 1 1/2 inches, cut ribbon to length for wrist band.
Step 3: Cut 1 1/2 inches of the soft side of Velcro and the hook side to 1 inch lengths. (See photo B.)
Step 4: Once all pieces for the wrist rattle are cut out, take the small amount of quilter's batting and wrap it around the jingle bell making sure that it is secure by hand stitching it closed. The batting size should fit inside the body of the duck.
Step 5: Sandwich between the two body pieces the batting with the jingle bell. Whip stitch the body together with the jingle bell inside. (See photo C.)
Step 6: Attach the back of the head, first piece of the bill, and front of the head to the body lightly stuffing with batting before closing. (See photos D and E.)
Step 7: Whip stitch the other part of the bill to the head. Hand embroider eyes using the black embroidery thread. Make a bow with 1/4 inch ribbon and sew securely to neck. (See photo F as a guide for placement.)
Step 8: Fold ribbon for wrist band in half lengthwise, iron and fold under ends by 1/4 inch and iron. Measure hemming tape to fit into wrist band. Cut to length. Place hemming tape into folded ribbon and iron on lowest setting.
Step 9: Once wrist band is set, sew to the back of duck body by stitching a square then an X. Sew long stitches on either side of X square.(See photo G.)
Step 10: Using photo H as a guide, sew soft side of Velcro on left side of wrist band making sure that the ducky is facing you.
Step 11: To complete the ducky wrist rattle, using photo I as a guide, sew hook side of Velcro opposite side of wrist band making sure that the ducky is facing down when sewing.
Tip: You may also machine sew the Velcro to the strap if you desire.
