Embellishing Photo Frames Easily

Button Ribbon Frame

Embellishing photo frames with some found items can create a unique display for your photos. They also make great gifts for friends and family. Decorate them to match the baby's nursery or choose a theme that will compliment decor or the photo itself. There are so many possibilities available when decorating your photo frame.

Decorating The Frame

When embellishing photo frames, what to use on your frame will depend on what it is made of. If it is made of wood, you can easily glue objects or paint the frame. Some glues do not adhere well to metal so I prefer not to glue objects onto metal frames. Hot glue does seem to work on some metals. A metal frame can also be covered in fabric or painted. One other way to decorate a metal frame is to use polymer clay. It can be used to sculpt onto the metal frame and then baked to cover it.

Buttons, ribbons, seashells, and fake flowers are just some of the things that you can use to decorate your frame. Use the photo as inspiration for what you will use. For example, if you have a photo that was taken at the beach, use some seashells, or other beach related items. Use fun foam shapes, felt appliques, or scrapbook stickers. Below are some easy examples of how you can transform a plain frame using ribbon and other embellishments.

Photo Frame Projects

Sunflower Frame 1 Sunflower Frame 2 Sunflower Embellished Frame

A fake sunflower and letters made of foam were used for this example. You can add any message you want to the frame to make it personal. Arranging the letters in different directions will create a new look for this baby photo project.

Baby Appliques Embellished Frame Baby Appliques Embellished Frame

Felt baby item appliques were used here. You can buy already made appliqués used primarily for scrapbooking or you can make your own. Use scraps of fabric, felt, ribbon, buttons, pins, or just about anything else you can think of.

Pink Ribbon Frame Pink Ribbon Embellished Frame

Pink ribbon was used around the entire border with a bow and a button on top of it. Add more than one button to each corner or keep it simple by using only one. Mix and match textures and patterns to create interesting combinations.

Blue Ribbon Frame 1 Blue Ribbon Mane and Tail

Add several strips of blue ribbon to create a mane for this rocking horse frame. The ribbons are different shades of blue and also have different designs on them. A button eye is used to give it some personality.

Blue Ribbon Frame 2 Blue Ribbon Bow

Ribbon tied around the neck is adorable and easy to do. Cut strips of the same length and make a pretty bow. The simplicity of it makes it a very classy choice and is quick when in a pinch.

Cowboy Western Themed Frame Cowboy Themed Frame

Pre-cut foam appliqués can add visual interest and are very cute. The cowboy western theme fits very well with the rocking horse. You can make these appliqués yourself or choose ones that are pre-cut.
