Make A Plush Kitty Bag Accessory

Hello Kitty by Sanrio® was repurposed and turned into an adorable plush kitty bag for a little girl to wear around the waist. She has a large head so it was perfect for this project. It gives just enough room to store little items in the pocket. Using a t-shirt sleeve for the pocket is a great way to recycle and repurpose outgrown baby clothes.

To begin this project, grab any Hello Kitty plush or similar stuffed animal and an outgrown long sleeve baby shirt. You can also use a small tube sock in place of the shirt for the pocket lining. An old t-shirt pocket will also work.

To make this bag, you will need the following:

Materials:

Hello Kitty plush toy
Small long sleeve shirt
Belt strap
D-rings
Velcro hook and loop tape
Seam ripper
Needle
Thread
Pins
Scissors

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut t-shirt sleeve to create a pocket lining for the bag. (See photo A.)

Step 2: Turn the sleeve inside out. Sew the sleeve with matching thread. Set aside. (See photo B.)

Step 3: Use a seam ripper to create an opening on the back of the plush kitty head. Remove some of the polyester fill stuffing. This will create a space for the pocket. (See photo C.)

Step 4: Insert pocket lining into the opening and pin in place. (See photo D.)

Step 5: Sew pocket lining to the opening. (See photo E.)

Step 6: Cut Velcro to fit the length of the pocket and pin in place as shown so that the loop side is on the left and the hook side is on the right. (See photo F.)

Step 7: Sew Velcro to the pocket. (See photo G.)

Step 8: Measure belt strap to desired length, cut, and pin to the back of body. Insert end of strap through d-rings and pin. (See photo H.)

Step 9: Sew belt strap to the body and secure d-rings. (See photo I.) You have now completed your new plush Hello Kitty bag.
