These ribbon nursery letters will look great above your baby's crib. You can also hang them on the door to the room. Change up the colors to match your baby's nursery. Make them big or small depending on your preference. Either way will work for this project.
Instead of using ribbon to wrap the letters, use fabric scraps, then tie with coordinating ribbon to hang. Spell out the baby's name if you'd like. For this project, we used the word "BABY" as this can be for either a boy or a girl. Chenille pipe cleaners are used to create an armature frame for the letter shapes. This gives you the flexibility to create the letters you want.
To make these ribbon nursery letters, you will need the following:
Materials:
Chenille pipe cleaners or stems Light loft quilter's batting Assorted ribbons by the spool Scissors Tacky glue
Instructions:
Step 1: Print out the letters B, A, and Y. These will be used as guides for creating your letter shapes. Or you can print out your own letters with a word processor. The font type used was Arial and font size is 450.
Step 2: Begin by twisting some pipe cleaners together until they become one. Do this 2 more times. You will have three twisted pipe cleaners.(See photo A.)
Step 3: Take the pipe cleaners and form the letter "B". (See photo B.)
Step 4: Twist the ends to finish the letter "B". (See photo C.)
Step 5: Begin letter "A" by twisting two pipe cleaners in the same manner as mentioned for "B". Form into a "^" shape. (See photo D.)
Step 6: Use one pipe cleaner folded in half and twist to attach to one side of the frame. (See photo E.)
Step 7: Attach pipe cleaner to the other side to complete the letter "A". (See photo F.)
Step 8: Using the same methods, use 4 pipe cleaners to form the letter "Y". Two on each side then twist together. (See photo G.)
Step 9: Make another letter "B" using the same methods on steps 2-4. This completes the word "BABY". (See photo H.)
Step 10: Cut strips of quilter's batting and begin wrapping the letter "B". (See photo I.)
Step 11: Keep wrapping the batting around the letter "B" until you reach the desired thickness of your letter. (See photo J.)
Step 12: Begin wrapping ribbon around the letter "B" in the same manner until you completely cover the entire letter. Fold in end and glue in place. (See photo K.)
Step 13: Repeat the same methods on steps 10-12 for all the letters until you've finished them all.
Step 14: Cut four ribbons to about 12 inches each. Fold in half and attach one ribbon to each letter at the top and knot securely. (See photo L.)
You are now finished. Display your ribbon nursery letters proudly!
